You often times hear a person talk about having their finger on the pulse of the music.  What does that mean really?  You have to first understand what is the driving force behind the heart of it all.  The simple answer is life.  But then again, that really is a complex answer.  Life is more than just a series of events, but a journey with many stops, and lots of new faces and experiences along the way.  One artist who has a great grasp on matters of that heart and life's crazy journey is Steve Helms.

A native Texan who's musical journey began some 30 years ago, Steve Helms has music in his blood.  Hailing from Johnson county Texas, a seemingly hot bed of Texas music, Steve has had music around him the entire time.  Steve grew up learning the basis for music from his father, who spent years in the business.  When asked about the beginnings of his current project as an artist Steve said: "I've always sang, I've always played, I've always had bands, I had just never wanted to go record or pursue a record deal on my own." And we are lucky that Steve chose to follow that direction.  With Steve being no stranger to the business himself, he has seen may aspects of music, and performed in many places that most artists only dream about.  Those experiences shine brightly through Steve's honest approach to songwriting.

Known most famously for his song Nowhere but Texas, which has become an Anthem for countless Texas residents, Steve is not just a one song artist.  Steve Helms has been writing and releasing the kind of music that many fans can relate to.  A true every-man's artist, who's grounded values and integrity, have allowed  for great success.

The Steve Helms Band's current project Red Wine and Copenhagen, is an album with good energy, a diverse sound from track to track, and an overall feel of what a great country album full of personal songwriting should have.  Talks of an acoustic album for his next project were discussed, and that is something we hope does come to light.  Steve Helms truly is a great guy, who makes the kind of music listeners want, and has a stage show that is enjoyable for the new fan as well as the faithful follower.

I'll leave you guys with this great montage of Steve Helms' music.

Learning to take criticism for our actions or thoughts can be a difficult task.  However, it is a lesson we must learn should we choose to grow and succeed in this journey we call life.  If a person can take what is given, stand behind their beliefs, and learn from their mistakes, everything will come out ok in the wash.  Arrogance, disrespect, and forcing an empty belief is a common mistake many people make these days.  Try and remember what you were taught in kindergarten: do unto others, as you would want done unto you.  The critics and cynics will always be there, but if you are true to yourself, and honest with others, together, we can all achieve great things. This is Texas Red Dirt Roads.
